| Metabolites of the isoprenoid biosynthetic pathway are essential components in all cells. Isoprenoid compounds are assembled from the single simple precursors, isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP) and dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP). Most bacteria produce IPP through thed Products: 2-C-methyl-D-erythritol-4-phosphate (MEP) pathway, whereas fungi and animals use the mevalonate (MVA) pathway.
