Acc1 is a biotin-containing enzyme that participates in fatty acid synthesis by converting acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA.  Acc1 catalyzes the rate limiting step of and is the main site of regulation for the fatty acid synthesis pathway.  Acc1 is highly expressed in breast cancer and other tumors and associates with the gene product of the breast cancer susceptibility gene BRCA1.
