Galantide is a chimeric peptide consisting of fragments of galanin and Substance P which acts as a reversible galanin receptor antagonist. The peptide antagonizes the galanin-mediated inhibition of the glucose-induced insulin secretion from mouse pancreatic islets in a dose-dependant manner (IC50 = 1.0 nM). It antagonizes the galanin-induced increase in K+ conductance IC50 = 4 nM).
