Beta MSH (melanocyte-stimulating hormone) is produced from the precursor pro-opiomelanocortin, POMC, in the pituitary gland. Beta MSH activates the MC4-R receptor and can increase pigmentation of skin by increasing melanin production in melanocytes as well as inhibit feeding behavior.
