LH-RH II is the alligator and chicken form of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH), also known as Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). LH-RH binds the gonadotropin releasing hormone receptor on gonadotrope cells in the pituitary gland, stimulating phospholipase C to release calcium and activating protein kinase C. LH-RH controls many functions including follicular growth, ovulation, corpus luteum maintenance in females, and spermatogenesis in males. LH-RH II (alligator, chicken) is used as a comparative analog in studies of LH-RH evolution.
