α-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) is a hormone and neuropeptide which stimulates melanogenesis. Alpha MSH Ac-Nle4 c[Asp5, D-Phe7, Lys10] (4-10) amide is a cyclic, synthetic α-MSH analog also known as Melanotan II. It acts as an antagonist of melanocortin-3 and -4 recpetors. It can be used in obesity research and has been shown to inhibit feeding in mouse models.
